So the Onan 8k diesel generator on the Airstream works like a dream. You can start it from; the driver’s seat, an electric monitor panel back by the galley, or by a switch on the generator itself. The generator is normally hidden but easily slides out on rails from a panel under the windshield.
Normally when you push the “start” button, the preheater comes on and you hear a slight “tickety-tickety” sound that lasts about 15-20 seconds, then the generator cranks and starts right up.
Yesterday, I was running the gennie to show it to Stu (my son-in-law) and while running it started making a “clunking” sound. Still ran quiet and smooth, yet with this added “clunking”.
So I’ve reached out to other RV owners via the Airstream, Escapees, and Good Sam owners forums in hopes that one of my fellow RV’ers out there might have some ideas. If I don’t get a good answer to my quest in a couple days, then off to the RV dealer it goes to get this issue addressed before we hit the road April 1st. Stay tuned for updates.
