After visiting V- BAR- V State Historic Site and taking a walk on down to cool and clean Beaver Creek, we still had a lot of daylight left to go exploring some more.
We decided to drive on into, up, and over Historic (haunted) Jerome and go check out the campground at Mingus Mountain. Located in the cool pines atop Mingus Mountain, this campground offers a spectacular view of the Verde Valley, the red rocks of Sedona, the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, and the Mogollon Rim.
After taking a drive through the campground and looking from the scenic overlook, we drove across and onto an unmarked trail, not sure where it would take us. What a treat! Turns out this unmarked trail led to another peak of the mountain where there are at least a dozen cell phone and radio towers, a small private (club) campground AND the official launch site of the ARIZONA HANG GLIDERS ASSOCIATION!
Take a look at the slide show below along with the video of daredevil Kathy …
Just another fascinating place to see in the Verde Valley area.
Wow! How beautiful! You are actually filming from much closer than I would ever dare–I’m terrified of heights. Breathtaking view, though–had to have been a great day of adventure! Dawn
